Proverbs 3:7 (ESV) tells us that “Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.”
Have you ever taken a selfie? If you haven’t, you have probably seen someone else take one. When we take a selfie, we aim the camera lens on ourselves. We usually make sure we look, all right, our hair’s in place and there’s no one photobombing us from behind. We study our image and decide what angle makes our face look the best. A selfie. It is all about self. Consider how often each day you think about yourself and how you look to others rather than thinking about God and how glorious he looks to you. Proverbs chapter three verse seven says, Be not wise in your own eyes. Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
Are there times you trust your own judgment? Too much the sometimes follow your emotions rather than following God’s word. Emotions often betray us and can’t be trusted. We look to ourselves to determine whether or not our actions are wise. Instead of looking to the Lord, dear Lord God, I praise your name. You are the only wise God. Forgive me when I rely on my own wisdom instead of yours. Thank you for your Holy word, full of divine guidance and hope. I want to hear your voice now and throughout my day. Please soften my heart and open my ears. Tell me what I need to know to overcome my struggles, helped me recognize and turn entirely away from evil. Lead me away from sin, dear God, and empower me to forgive those who sin against me. Amen.
